Lisa Vanderpump’s party planner, Kevin Lee, had a lot to say about Katie Maloney’s weight on the most recent episode of Vanderpump Rules, but he swears they were just harmless comments. However, based on Maloney’s reaction, Lee’s “harmless” words didn’t sit right with her at all.
While Maloney was serving appetizers during Vanderpump’s Beverly Hills Magazine party, Lee – who has worked with Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey, and Jennifer Lopez – thought it would be fun to let the SUR waitress know that she looked different from the last time he saw her.
“What happened?” asked Lee. “You were much thinner than this. You gained a little bit of weight. You have to work on it. Seriously, I’m telling you as a friend. It’s out of control now. I can tell.”
Maloney says that Lee’s comments made her uncomfortable, and she had a hard time processing what he said because at first, she thought he was saying she looked good. But, when he kept going, she realized what he was really saying.
The 31-year-old says that she decided to just walk away and go talk to Vanderpump about what Lee said and about her struggles with a positive body image.
She said she was finally in a place where she felt healthy and great, but when Lee said those things to her, it put a face and voice to the negative things written about her on social media.
But, Vanderpump lifted her up and told her she was “the most beautiful girl at the restaurant.” She also praised Maloney for having so much self-confidence over the years, especially after an accident in 2009 where she fell through a skylight, and it left a permanent scar on her face.
During the episode, Vanderpump tweeted that she remembered the accident well and how Maloney was concerned about her job, and then she reminded her that she “loved you then and now.”

Lee says he felt the exchange got out of hand and he didn’t realize the harm in his words until Maloney reacted badly. He added that he felt bad, but he had no bad intentions.
He explained that all he meant to say was that he hadn’t seen her in a while and she looked different than he expected.
Maloney’s husband, Tom Schwartz, confirmed that Lee did apologize for his sassy comments and sent a nice letter.
But Maloney says you shouldn’t ever say things like that to someone.
