Vanderpump Rules star Stassi Schroeder is in hot water after she posted a selfie wearing a black top and beret on Instagram with the caption “Nazi chic.” Fans immediately responded with criticism, and the hashtag #DumpStassi began trending on Twitter. Will the reality star lose her job because of her poor choice of words?
According to OK! Magazine, the selfie featured Schroeder and her VPR co-stars, Rachel O’Brien and Kristen Doute. The girls were all wearing jeans and black tops, with O’Brien sporting a beanie, Doute a bandana, and Schroeder a beret.
The 29-year-old labeled O’Brien’s outfit “criminal chic,” Doute’s look as “Tupac chic,” and for herself, she bafflingly wrote “Nazi chic.”
Once she realized her words had offended people, she quickly deleted and replaced it with what she called an “appropriate redo.” The second time around, she called her look, “Elsa-Indiana Jones chic,” referring to the Nazi villain in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
But her half-hearted attempt at redemption was too little, too late, with outraged fans demanding on social media that producers fire her from Vanderpump Rules.
The New York Daily News reports that one fan wrote that Schroeder’s actions should not be tolerated and this isn’t something to joke about or normalize. Another user asked what is chic about a Nazi, and then said she would ask her aunt and uncle – who survived a concentration camp – if they consider Schroeder’s outfit chic, since they have first-hand experience.
People didn’t limit their outrage to Schroeder. One fan tweeted at Andy Cohen that they hope someone at the Bravo network is smart enough to fire Schroeder before they start losing viewers, while another sent a message to her Sur boss, Lisa Vanderpump, telling her she may want to rethink Schroeder’s employment.
This isn’t the first controversy Schroeder has found herself in the middle of. Back in November, she had to issue an apology after she mocked women on her podcast who came forward for the #metoo movement.
She allegedly said that it was the “easiest thing in the world” to not go to someone’s hotel room and “suck their d**k.” That comment lost her podcast multiple sponsors, and she eventually admitted that her behavior was “irresponsible,” and she had crossed a line.
Per The Daily Dish, Schroeder will turn 30 this summer, and she recently revealed that she feels more mature the older she gets and, as a result, she feels better about herself. She went on to say that there is something about turning 30 that is empowering.
Stassi Schroeder has not commented on the #DumpStassi campaign. New episodes of Vanderpump Rules air Monday nights on Bravo.
