Tiffany Haddish went from being a relatively unknown comedienne to an international sensation, seemingly overnight! However, most know that success such as hers doesn’t come in one day, it takes years to cultivate.
And her success came up in a big way, as the star presented an award at this year’s Oscars. Tiffany considered it such an honor to present but found it surprising when she realized a paycheck wasn’t coming her way.
Despite the fact that a person typically checks to see if they’re getting paid before they agree to do a job, Tiffany apparently missed that memo and decided to do it anyway.
In a report from Variety, Haddish claims she thought she, along with Maya Rudolph, would get paid for their appearance on stage at this year’s Academy Awards.
Tiffany said she and Maya decided to audition for the part because they thought they would receive payment for the work. However, following the ceremony, both stars realized they would only get a $13 bottle of champagne.

She explained, “we got a bottle of wine that’s like $13. So, I had to buy the wine.” And while Haddish didn’t host the award’s ceremony, she did present them, and she figured she would get at least a bit of money for doing so.
With that said, Haddish admitted it didn’t ruin the experience because she would gladly do it again. In fact, she would host the Academy Awards, because her family, including her father, would be incredibly proud of such an achievement.
The honor wouldn’t be enough though; she would want a paycheck. As it was previously reported, Tiffany made it to mainstream success following her role in the film, Girl’s Trip, along with Jada Pinkett-Smith and Queen Latifah.
