This Is Us is well known for its emotional storylines, but things got just as dramatic behind the scenes. Inside sources claim that This Is Us cast-mates Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore feuded on the set before another co-star stepped in. How did Moore and Ventimiglia settle their beef?
Insiders say that Moore and Ventimiglia fought because he was basically given the part without any effort. Moore, on the other hand, was forced to undergo a round of intense casting, which made her resent her onscreen hubby. The two reportedly fought for the first two seasons until Chrissy Metz got involved.
A source told Radar Online that Metz, who plays the pair’s daughter on the show, developed a close bond with Moore and Ventimiglia. Although the two fought for a long time, Metz used her relationship with her co-stars to end their epic feud.
“Chrissy reminded them success is a group effort, and to stop bickering and be nice,” the insider dished. “It’s not a competition anymore.”
Moore and Ventimiglia’s fighting went beyond how they got their respective roles. A source previously revealed that the actress could not stand being around Ventimiglia, whom she thought was a little too moody.
While Moore loved being a part of the show, she reportedly thought Ventimiglia was an emotional “roller-coaster.” Luckily, Metz was able to talk some sense into them and the two now get along just fine.
Feuding aside, This Is Us is currently heading into its 3rd season on NBC. Series producers Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker recently talked about what’s ahead for the hit drama and revealed that fans will see the show expand the story both in time and place.
This includes diving more into Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) Vietnam trip with Zoe, Beth’s cousin; Toby’s battle with depression; and all of the challenges that are ahead for Tess and Randall (Sterling K. Brown).
The season will also explore Jack’s military experience, which ties in nicely with Kevin’s journey to Vietnam. To properly deal with the Vietnam era storyline, producers hired special consultants and Tim O’Brien, who penned the famous war novel The Things They Carried. After focusing so much on Jack’s death, it will be nice to explore more areas of his life moving forward.
Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia have not commented on the rumors surrounding their feud.
Season 3 of This Is Us kicks off Sept. 25 on NBC.
