Selena Gomez and her boyfriend The Weeknd have been through a lot and according to recent reports, that includes Selena’s kidney failure. On Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, Selena Gomez stunned the nation when she revealed she underwent a kidney transplant over the summer.
Her best friend Francia Raisa donated the organ but before she had surgery, she experienced life-threatening kidney failure in May 2017. During that time The Weeknd did not leave her side and was a very supportive boyfriend during the trying times and health crisis.
According to TMZ, Selena Gomez was in Chicago back in May supporting her boyfriend during his concert. Her kidneys failed and she was rushed to the hospital. Though we don’t know exactly how long Selena was hospitalized in Chicago, it seems as if it might have been for an extended period of time.
Selena was reportedly on a kidney donor list, but it was her best friend Francia who came through for her.
There are new reports indicating that Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have moved in together and are living in New York.

I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made.
