During his performance at Coachella, The Weeknd got a bit emotional. Was it because his new songs reminded him of Selena Gomez?
The singer headlined the first day of the famous festival and while on stage, the fans were able to capture Abel breaking down performing Call Out My Name and Privilege.
As you may know already, the two tracks are both part of his brand new EP My Dear Melancholy, and they seem to be all about his and Selena Gomez’s relationship and eventual split.
The two were romantically involved for ten months and broke up in October of last year.
Call Out My Name especially has gotten a lot of attention for supposedly being filled with a lot of Selena references.
‘We found each other/ I helped you out of a broken place/ You gave me comfort/ But falling for you was my mistake,’ he sings before going on to mention the ‘rough times’ alluding to the fact that he almost gave her his kidney.
Privilege also seems to be talking about their breakup.
‘Enjoy your privileged life/ ‘Cause I’m not gonna hold you through the night / We said our last goodbyes / So let’s just try to end it with a smile / And I don’t wanna hear that you’re suffering. And I’m a f**k the pain away, and I know I will be okay / They said our love is just a game, I don’t care what they say / But I’ma drink the pain away, I’ll be back to my old ways / And I got two red pills to take the blues away,’ the lyrics say.
A lot of fans took to social media to mention The Weeknd’s emotional performance at Coachella and show their support.
