The Voice continued their fifth night of blind auditions on Monday and the teams are truly taking shape. Last night’s episode featured several highlights and the first duo in years made it through. Some notable performances included Kirk Jay, who received a four-chair turnaround, Colton Smith whose originality and sense of character impressed Judges Adam, Blake, Jennifer, and Kelly, and the duo OneUp made an impression with the song “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love.”
Kirk Jay sang Rascal Flatts “Bless The Broken Road” and Adam said it sounded like Blake Shelton and Cee-Lo Green had a country baby. Though Jay had all judges vying for him, he made the best choice a country singer could make and went with Blake.
Blake Shelton later tweeted how happy he was to have Kirk on his team and asked if people thought Kelly was hurting over his decision.
Kelly Clarkson has repeatedly stated that she is country too and that every country-music contestant doesn’t have to choose Blake.
Consisting of Adam and Jerome, OneUp is an interracial, gay couple that is making beautiful harmony together. They bring a new vibe to the show and it will be interesting to see how they do. They have a love for classic Motown hits and when they sang “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love” they brought plenty of runs, falsettos, and deep baritones to give the song a rich quality.
Kelly was so touched to see an interracial gay couple showing that love knows no bounds she broke down in tears. There was no doubt that the judges and fans adored the duo.
OneUp had three teams to choose from but they ended up choosing Kelly Clarkson. It may have been her overwhelming, emotional support for them as a couple and duo that helped them decide. Either way, we’re happy they are on the show.
The Spinners “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love” isn’t the only older song the contestants picked.
Rocker Natalie Brady wowed Adam and JHud with her cover of Heart’s “Barracuda.” She ultimately went with Team Adam, though she admitted she loves country music, making Blake and Kelly regret not turning their chairs around.
