It looks like no one is really safe in this whole mess.
In the aftermath of Megyn Kelly’s recent hiring at NBC, the Today show team is “on edge” about their jobs. The entire team is confused and even scared that it all might come crashing down.
According to a source, “Everyone is just on edge, all the time.” Apparently the morning show is very competitive and rating-hungry and so, the environment is always tense and not at all comfortable to work in. “Even when they’re up, they don’t know what’s going to happen,” added the insider about the show’s stressful environment and the general confusion that manifests itself even during broadcast.
Furthermore, the insider added that the hosts, including Matt Lauer, Tamron Hall, Carson Daly, and even Savannah Guthrie, who is still on maternity leave, “are always looking over their shoulders.”
It sounds like a horrible situation to be in but still, nobody wants to lose their jobs.
Although, according to the insider, Kelly will not be replacing Guthrie the anchors are still anxious about the possibility of it still happening.
“They all feel like they could be bought out or lose their jobs at any moment,” the source explained, pointing out Billy Bush‘s firing in October when he was caught on camera making lewd comments with President-elect Donald Trump in 2005. “Look what happened to Billy!”
Although his firing was caused by completely different reasons and it was also well deserved, the rest of the NBC employees cannot help but feel that their positions are also under threat.
According to reports, Lauer knew about Kelly getting hired before it was officially announced, and informed him that she would replace Guthrie.
“Savannah is terrified,” claimed the insider.
Maybe, in an effort to make her presence known, Guthrie look a break from her maternity leave in order to come and congratulate Lauer on his Today show 20th anniversary on January 6.
