The Predator took the number one spot this weekend after the failure of The Nun, which fell 66% this week. The Predator, starring Olivia Munn and directed by Shane Black, earned just $24 million in its first weekend, comparatively well to other films in theatres this week.
While The Predator beat all the other competition, It was a poor performance for the movie industry this weekend in comparison to previous years.
In fact, The Predator, which cost approximately $88 million to create before the marketing campaign, didn’t manage to break even, and the likelihood of such has been called into question. Moreover, the film was ranked a C+ by the audience – not an impressive score.
As you may know, The Predator is a remake of the 1987 original starring the legendary body-builder, actor, and politician, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Reportedly, it was meant to be a little more humorous than the original movie. As for why they chose to add “the” to the movie’s title – that hasn’t been explained.
This all comes on the heels of Olivia Munn outing a sexual offender who worked on The Predator. As it was previously reported, Olivia complained to HR about Shane Black’s friend, William Wilder Streigel, who supposedly attempted to seduce a 14-year-old girl over email as an adult male.
The actress, despite doing the right thing in her eyes, felt as though her cast-mates were giving her the cold shoulder. Later on, Olivia complained about her fellow cast-mates, explaining that they clapped for the director, Shane Black, but not for her when they both took the stage at their respective moments.
On Tuesday, during her appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Olivia said she really believed she was making the right choice, and if her career tanked because of it, she would accept it, because she wouldn’t want to work in an industry that shields predators who take aim at children.
