The new Robin Hood teaser trailer is here and people can’t stop talking about the costumes. Produced by Jennifer Davisson and Leonardo DiCaprio, anticipation for the movie is high. Starring Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey), Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) and Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained), the trailer’s release quickly began trending. However, it wasn’t long before people noticed something amiss about the costumes.
As some of the earliest known references to Robin Hood date back to the 1300’s, it’s naturally assumed that Robin Hood will take place between the Renaissance or medieval times, and not in a modern-day setting. Astute fans of the character and stories quickly detected that the costumes in the upcoming Robin Hood movie were machine sewn without any trace of appearing to have been crafted by medieval seamstresses.
Though retellings of the Robin Hood story is nothing new, not many use modern-day costumes.

“Nothing says Robin Hood like a machine-stitched hoodie,” wrote Gavia Baker-Whitelaw from the Daily Dot. Her tweet has received over 2,000 likes, more than 500 retweets and over 70 comments.
Some people suggested that Robin Hood looked like he was wearing a hoodie as opposed to his traditional hooded cloak. Others said he resembled a modern-day hacker and suggested the story be retold in modern times with Robin Hood as a hacker that steals from the rich to give to the poor.
Others began posting and sharing photos of jackets that appeared similar in style to those featured in the teaser trailer. One user referred to Robin Hood as wearing a waxed Barbour jacket.
Online conversations compared the trailer with the 2001 film A Knight’s Tale that starred Heather Ledger. A Knight’s Tale was a modern retelling and some are wondering if Robin Hood will be a modern story as well, due to the costume choices.
Some social media users offered early predictions that the movie wouldn’t be as successful as it could be due to the wardrobe choices. It’s most likely too early to make that type of judgment based on the teaser trailer and costume choices alone.
What do you think about the new Robin Hood trailer? Do you think the costume choices were a mistake?
