It comes as no surprise to Counting On fans that the Duggar family is worth a fortune. But, what many people don’t realize is that the family’s income isn’t just from their reality TV empire. Even though the family has been on TLC for over a decade, they know that future success isn’t guaranteed. So, patriarch Jim Bob has done everything he can to make sure their bank accounts keep growing.
The Duggars’ reality shows have been a fixture on the TLC schedule since 2008, but they have to split their TV profits a number of different ways. So, over the years Jim Bob has built the family real estate business, and they now own many different properties, including their 7,000 square foot home. He also gets his kids involved in the business when they are teenagers, and real estate has turned into a lucrative venture for the family.
Jim Bob and Michelle’s reported net worth is currently around $3.5 million, but with so many mouths to feed, they remain frugal and still find multiple ways to stretch a dollar.
According to The Hollywood Gossip, Jim Bob is up at dawn every morning, and he never takes a day off. The family has always been secretive about their side-businesses, but insiders say that Jim Bob always has at least five different income streams, and he encourages his kids to do the same.
Of course, their biggest source of income is still reality TV, and they reportedly earn between $25,000 and $40,000 an episode. But, that almost came to an end in 2015 when TLC canceled 19 Kids & Counting after Josh Duggar’s molestation and cheating scandal.
But, the family bounced back with the spinoff Counting On. They filmed 229 episodes of 19 Kids, and now they are currently at 53 episodes of Counting On. This means the family has earned over $11 million over the past ten years for their work in reality television.
The family also earns a ton of profit from speaking engagements and book sales. The oldest girls — Jana, Jessa, Jill, and Jinger — wrote Growing Up Duggar, and they reportedly sold over 100,000 copies. Michelle and Jim Bob also wrote A Love That Multiplies and 20 and Counting.
As for his real estate ventures, Jim Bob has angered some of his neighbors in the past couple of years because he is buying so much land in their hometown of Tontitown, Arkansas. He is currently fighting for the right to rezone 23 acres of land that he wants to turn into a luxury RV park.
Counting On just ended Season 8 earlier this month. But, the Duggar family will return with all new episodes in 2019.
