John Andrew Studdard – a Duggar family cousin – was in talks with producers to get his own reality show. But, because he dared to speak out against his famous family, it looks like he is suffering the consequences. Are the Counting On stars preventing Studdard from getting his own show because he slammed Derick Dillard for his homophobic comments?
It turns out, it isn’t the Duggars who are quashing Studdard’s reality show dreams – it’s his parents. Studdard’s mom is Jim Bob Duggar’s cousin, and she and her husband are refusing to take part in their son’s show because he ripped Dillard for sharing his controversial beliefs on social media.
“The producers were hoping to do a show with his immediate family, but all of his immediate family declined,” an insider told Radar Online. “They think it’s tacky that John Andrew spoke out about Derick’s beliefs and have warned him if he speaks out publicly again he will be cut off financially.”

Studdard is a gay rights activist, and he has reportedly been “begging” producers to give him another shot at his own show without his family. Instead, he wants to show his life with his friends, as well as the volunteer work he is passionate about. Studdard would like to have a platform to spread awareness for causes important to him. His goal is to build an empire bigger than his cousins.
The source says that the 28-year-old didn’t mean any ill will towards Dillard and doesn’t think the Duggars are bad people. He simply spoke out against the former Counting On star because he wants him to be considerate of others. His comments were harsh, but he doesn’t know him well enough to say that Dillard is a bad person.
Last month, Dillard made anti-gay comments about TLC stars Nate Berkus and his husband, Jeremiah Brent. He called their show Nate & Jeremiah by Design a “travesty of family” because it showcases a gay couple and their children.
After Dillard’s comments, Studdard slammed his distant cousin by saying that he should “keep his mouth shut.” Studdard also said that we don’t have to agree with someone’s life, but you shouldn’t speak when half of America dislikes you. And, as a public figure, Studdard thinks Dillard should stop being so harsh.

Studdard claims that producers reached out to him about having his own reality show because he has a unique storyline – he is an adopted Asian in an all-Caucasian family living in the South. He says that he would “carry a show way better” than his famous cousins because he is open to all religions and sexual orientations.
He added that every religion, gender, sexual orientation, and race is important. However, Studdard says he is “somewhat conservative,” but he knows how to keep his opinions to himself. He added that his show would be the real South, with good style and many colorful personalities.
John Andrew Studdard says he could carry his own show and the topics could reach all audiences. Plus, he is way more fun.
Most of the Duggar family return with new episodes of Counting On this summer on TLC.
