Freeform is gearing up to begin filming on their upcoming spinoff series to the long-running show Pretty Little Liars and has made their first casting announcement. Former Disney Channel star Sofia Carson will co-star on the series alongside returning actresses Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish.
The new show, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, is based on another book series by Pretty Little Liars author Sara Shepard.
Carson will play the role of Ava, who is described as “a beautiful trendsetting blogger and coder, who strives to be a fashion icon.”
In a short video posted on social media, Carson made the announcement herself alongside The Perfectionists showrunner Marlene King.

Pieterse and Parrish will reprise their Pretty Little Liars roles as Alison DeLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal, respectively.
The plot of the new spinoff focuses on five young women in the town of Beacon Heights who were all used by a womanizer named Nolan Hotchkiss.
The girls plan to get revenge by killing Nolan but never go through with their plan; when Nolan turns up dead anyway, they become the prime suspects.
Now they have to band together to figure out who really did kill Nolan and why, plus discover who knew about their own secret plan.
The Perfectionists book series is actually a separate story from Pretty Little Liars, though it obviously has similar themes; the television version will tie the two together with the inclusion of Alison and Mona.
This is technically the second spinoff of Pretty Little Liars after the short-lived series Ravenswood was canceled in 2014 after only one season.
The original series ran for seven seasons on ABC Family/Freeform from 2010 until the series finale last July.
Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists is preparing to begin filming in the Portland, Oregon area and is expected to debut this fall on Freeform.
