Those in need of a quick Captain Black Jack Randall fix might want to tune in to The Crown next season. Outlander star Tobias Menzies is playing the part of Prince Philip in Season 3 and 4 of the hit Netflix drama, and the streaming service just released a first look of Menzies in his new role.
The image features Menzies’ character wearing a tux adorned with an assortment of military awards. The character is shown gazing out of a window at what looks like Buckingham Palace in the distance. The picture, which was shared on social media, features the caption, “Ambition.”

Menzies is well known for playing the part of Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall on Outlander, the show’s main villain the first few seasons. We don’t know what the show has in store for Prince Philip, but we’re pretty confident Menzies will get himself into plenty of trouble before too long.
Apart from Menzies, The Crown will be introducing a number of new faces this season. This includes Olivia Coleman, who is playing Queen Elizabeth II, and Helena Bonham Carter, who will portray Princess Margaret. Ben Daniels is also slated to star as Margaret’s hubby, Anthony Armstrong-Jones.
Netflix has not announced an official premiere date for the new season of The Crown, but it is expected to kick off sometime in early 2019.

The first couple of seasons of The Crown were set in the late 1940s through the early 1960s. The new season will continue into the 1970s as show Her Majesty as she and Philip hit 50 years old. As fans will recall, Matt Smith (Doctor Who) portrayed a younger version of Philip in Seasons 1 and 2.
Smith recently opened up about Tobias Menzies taking over his role and had nothing but good things to say about the Outlander star.
Season 3 of The Crown will drop on Netflix sometime in 2019.
