This has been quite an eventful few days for The Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. In Monday night’s finale, millions watched as he gave Becca Kufrin the final rose and then got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. But as soon as she said “yes,” Luyendyk started to doubt his choice and realized he couldn’t get his mind off the runner-up, Lauren Burnham.
Cut to six weeks later, and Luyendyk meets up with Kufrin for what she thinks is a romantic getaway weekend in Los Angeles. But instead, the former race car driver blindsided her with a gut-wrenching breakup, and then he went running back to Burnham.
Then on Tuesday night’s live After the Rose special, Luyendyk proposed to Burnham and she said “yes.”
The shocking twist blew up the internet and had everyone talking about Luyendyk’s change of heart. Is it possible that he wasn’t on the show to find love, but instead was just looking for attention?
According to Life & Style, there were signs from the beginning that Luyendyk had other priorities.
“I think he was in love with the attention [of being The Bachelor],” Kufrin’s friend and former contestant Caroline Lunny explained. “Like, when it was all over, he said something to Becca like, ‘Oh, everyone cared and now no one cares.'”
Lunny says that for Kufrin, her engagement to Luyendyk was very real. She says they were a fun, goofy couple who did normal things like put up a Christmas tree together.
But now that their relationship is over, Kufrin is ready to let go of any anger she has towards Luyendyk and put all the pain behind her. She has gotten rid of the engagement ring the 36-year-old gave her, and she is ready to find the man that she truly deserves.
Her continued quest to find true love will once again take place on national television because ABC has announced that Kufrin will be The Bachelorette next season. After what she went through with Luyendyk, fans are interested in finding out what happens with the Minnesota native, and that could mean huge ratings for the franchise.
It looks like, after all of this, Kufrin could come out on top.
As for Luyendyk, he is facing major backlash and his image is in a “death spiral,” says brand and reputation expert Eric Schiffer. Since people are so mad about what Luyendyk did, it could brand him for a long time and fans will be merciless with their comments.
Schiffer went on to say that casting Luyendyk on The Bachelor was a nightmare for fans because they were stuck with a leading man who torched the season.
Becca Kufrin’s season of The Bachelorette premieres May 28th on ABC. Arie Luyendyk has ignored the bashing he is taking from Bachelor Nation online; he continues to flaunt his love with Lauren Burnham on social media.
