The attorney speaking on behalf of rapper, DMX, made a bizarre request in court recently amid his tax evasion scandal which might put him behind bars. The rapper’s attorney asked the judge and jury to listen to the rapper’s songs to get a better understanding of his life and experience.
The lawyer said the purpose of listening to the rapper’s music was to “understand him genuinely” on a fundamental level. In a report from the Seattle Times, Murray Richman asked the court to listen to tracks like “Slippin'” and “The Convo” so they would have a better idea of who he is, and through what he’s struggled.
His lawyer said to the court, according to the Seattle Times, that “Earl is uniquely Earl,” and we can’t mold him into something which he cannot be.
While it’s a touching speech, one can only wonder how that will affect his case, considering he’s been accused of avoiding taxes on millions of dollars.
X’s lawyer asked the judge to send him to rehab rather than prison that way he would have a chance at paying back his $1.7 million in taxes which he owes the government. The lawyer said it would be needed for him also to support his fifteen children.
Richman noted to the New York Post that we, as a society, need to get Earl back on the streets and to work so he can contribute in a meaningful way.
According to Richman, DMX is one of the few people out there who can “achieve the restitution and make the government whole.”
It was reported recently by multiple organizations that the rapper disobeyed his parole and would go back to prison after he left the city and state without telling the court. As for his fifteen kids, one could only wonder why he would put himself in such a predicament.
