Suicide Squad‘s rendition of the Joker was met with mixed responses from fans, with many arguing it was the worst of all time, and others arguing it was one of the best of all time.
Nonetheless, it was a tough role for Jared Leto to take on, considering the last actor to portray the iconic villain was Heath Ledger, who became arguably the best Joker. Some might even say the best villain in the history of film.
However, now, the Suicide Squad director, David Ayer, expressed some regret about the character, portrayed by Leto. According to reports, Ayer admitted that putting the “damaged” tattoo on Jared’s hand was a bit much.
Critics eviscerated Ayer’s Joker because he was heavily featured in the film’s promotional campaign, but was rarely on the screen throughout the course of the movie.
Moreover, people felt that the “updated” version of the Joker, with all of the tattoos and the hip-hop accessories, felt a little contrived. When a fan asked David about the tattoo over the weekend, the director revealed his honest opinion.
Yes I have to fall on that sword. It was one step too far. https://t.co/WE80aWUTwy

“Yes, I have to fall on that sword,” the director remarked, “It was one step too far.” Two years after Suicide Squad came out, fans are still debating as to how good the film really was.
Currently, Warner Brothers and DC Films are working on Todd Phillips’ new movie, Joker, featuring Joaquin Phoenix. When a fan asked them about it, he said, “Todd and Joaquin are going to crush it.”
When images of Phoenix as the Joker leaked last week, reviews were varied. While it isn’t clear if Joaquin will smash the ball out of the park in the new movie, it is clear that filling the shoes of Heath Ledger is no easy feat.
