We have learned that Stan Lee has decided to sue POW! Entertainment for no less than $1 billion! As you may be aware, POW! Entertainment was co-founded by the Marvel Comics legend himself, in 2001.
The lawsuit documents were filed yesterday and obtained by E! News.
In the said court papers, Lee alleges that Gill Champion and Shane Duffy ‘conspired and agreed to broker a sham-deal to sell POW! Entertainment to a company based in China and fraudulently steal Lee’s identity, image, and likeness as part of a treacherous scheme to benefit financially at Lee’s expense.’
The company that he co-founded over 16 years ago was sold last year to Camsing International Holding.
Apparently, his business partners ‘forged or fraudulently obtained a signature from Lee to give POW! Inc. the exclusive use of Lee’s identity, name, image, likeness…’
In addition, it is also being claimed that in 2011, Lee’s macular degeneration was diagnosed.
Over the years, the illness advanced, and he was declared legally blind in 2016.
Therefore, the court documents claim he ‘has been unable to read documents or drive on his own.’
He is now seeking to legally obtain $1 billion in damages from the defenders.
Meanwhile, about three months ago, Stan Lee also announced that he is suffering from pneumonia.
In a video message he shot for TMZ back in February, he said: ‘Hi, heroes. This is Stan Lee. I have not been in touch with you lately. I have a bout of pneumonia I have been fighting, but it seems to be getting better. But I want you to know I am thinking of you—of course, I always think of the fans—and I hope you are all doing well, and I miss you all.
‘I miss your enthusiasm. I miss the notes and the photos and the e-mails that I used to get, and I still get a lot of them. I want you to know I still love you all. I think Marvel and Spidey and I have the best group of fans than any group in the world has ever had, and I sure appreciate it.
‘Let me know how you are doing. I hope everything’s going well for you, and I hope the next time we talk, I’ll be in even better shape. Maybe I will have some of this pneumonia knocked down, and we can have some real fun over the internet.’
