Jay-Z is known for his historical and immense contribution to hip-hop music over his thirty-year career, including the promotion of up and coming stars such as Sri Lankan rapper, M.I.A. The Sri Lankan MC was one of Jay’s protege’s from 2012 until 2013, but things supposedly fell off.
In an interview with Huck Magazine, MIA said that her relationship with Jay revealed that he’s not the man she thought he was. Regarding a deal with the NFL which went wrong, M.I.A claims she was sued by the football organization for $16.6 million.
The reason: The Sri Lankan artist flipped the middle finger to the camera during the 2012 Super Bowl Halftime show. Two years later, M.I.A. and the NFL came to an agreement, but not before she nearly signed on to another legal deal which she compared to slavery.
According to the rapper, the deal proposed by the NFL claimed that she would have to give the organization 100% of her income from then on if she earned over $2 million.
Jay supposedly told her it would be in her interest to sign it, but thankfully, she chose not to. Moreover, many people in the industry said to her that signing it would’ve been a good idea, but she knew in her heart it wasn’t a good idea at all.
Afterall, to give the NFL almost all of her money from then on would be an absurd agreement, one which would make her an indentured servant for the rest of her career.
Jay hasn’t commented publicly on these allegations yet, but he probably won’t either; he’s got a lot on his plate these days after the birth of his twins. Either way, some people doubt the veracity of M.I.A.’s claims.
