For former Southern Charm star Thomas Ravenel, his recent arrest for sexual battery is just one in a long list of brushes with the law and accusations from the women in his life. And according to the former State Treasurer of South Carolina, it all began with a traumatic childhood.
Although his relationship with his father appears to be drama free on the show, Thomas didn’t spend a lot of time with his father former United States Senator and Congressman of South Carolina, Arthur Ravenel Jr, following his parents’ split when he was just 10 years old.
Next came his first downfall from grace. While serving as State Treasurer, Ravenel was indicted on one count of intent to distribute cocaine. The charges got him a 10-month prison sentence and he was forced to resign from his prestigious post. The harsh sentencing likely came because an eyewitness told the judge presiding over the case that they had personally seen Ravenel use cocaine at 27 to 30 parties all around Charleston.
During the first season of Southern Charm, Ravenel met Kathryn Calhoun Dennis, and despite their very up and down relationship status, they did have two adorable kids Kensie and Saint. Although his relationship with Dennis fizzled, they vowed to be good co-parents and get along for the kids. Enter Ashley Jacobs.
For Season 5 of the Charleston-based reality show, Ravenel introduced us to his new “girlfriend” Ashley Jacobs, who he reportedly met while hanging out with former castmate Landon Clements around the polo fields of Santa Barbara.

The rumors that Jacobs was a hired escort were the least of his problems. Her outrageous behavior caused the entire Southern Charm cast turn against him, especially when it came to Dennis. Jacobs’ attacks on Dennis were below-the-belt and often done with Ravenel looking on and choosing not to do a thing about it.
Right before the Season 5 reunion was set to air, it was reported that Ravenel had allegedly sexually assaulted the live-in nanny he had hired to care for his children with Dennis. Bravo quickly uninvited him from the reunion, pending an investigation. Jacobs went on to appear, and it seemed like the entire cast wasn’t mad at her for her deplorable behavior, but rather were concerned for her relationship with the controlling Ravenel.
After the allegations became news, another woman revealed that she had reached a settlement of $200,000 with Ravenel for allegedly forcibly raping her in 2015.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago when Ravenel was arrested on the charges brought by the nanny. Bravo finally announced that Ravenel would no longer be a part of the show. Ravenel, however, blamed the network, not his multiple sexual assault allegations in a tweet following his exit.
“In the contract they have the right to fictionalize your story. They took advantage of me. I decided I’ve got too much to lose and informed them I’m not coming back.”
New episodes of Southern Charm – without Thomas Ravenel – return next year on Bravo.
