Following their constant bickering on recent episodes of Southern Charm, star Naomie Olindo is speaking out about her breakup with Craig Conover. In a new interview, the 25-year-old revealed her biggest regret about the split, explained why the former couple couldn’t make things work after three years together, and admitted that she comes across angry this season.
It has been almost a year since Olindo and Conover split – right before season five started filming – and now she has to relive the breakup and the aftermath on the show. She told The Daily Dish that “a million little things” started to add up and then things eventually blew up, and that led to the demise of the relationship.
“I think it was just a culmination of things that at the end of it, we were just two very different people that couldn’t get along,” explained Olindo. “It was sad because we did care about each other. You saw, we just could not get along.”
The reality star went on to say that she was 22 when they started dating, and when she was younger, she dated someone because of mutual attraction and having fun together. But, she didn’t think about the attributes that would make her get along with someone, their work ethic, and all of the adult things that matter when you are older, but not when you are a 22-year-old kid.
Olindo then revealed that her biggest regret about the split was how mean she was to Conover. She says it is funny now because she is in a different headspace than she was nine months ago. So, as she watches how angry she was all the time, she has asked herself, “Why did you let this drag out so long?” She also wonders why she didn’t just get over it and act like a nice human being.
She says that it is weird to watch back and see the anger and that she wishes she would have been nicer because Conover is a nice person. Olindo added that he is “like a puppy,” and she shouldn’t have been such a “b***h.” But, it is what is now.
She admits that there is a drastic change in her personality this season and acknowledges that she does come across a bit angry. But, she has no qualms when it comes to calling others out.
Conover did complain that his ex never gave him credit for his accomplishments during their relationship, including passing the bar. But, Olindo says that it was the day-to-day things that she felt Conover failed at. She says that he would go to bed when she got up in the morning, and then get up when she went to bed at night. So, that didn’t work. She is proud of his accomplishments, but her problem was the small stuff.
Olindo says the Southern Charm cast has been very supportive since the split, and even the guys were lovely throughout the whole thing. She says that no one chose sides and they had a good reaction.
As for Conover, he says that he and Olindo had the best of intentions, and they tried to work it out. But, after a while, they had to accept the reality that they were just too different. He added that no one cheated, so there wasn’t any anger, but it was just “disappointing and sad.”
Southern Charm airs Thursday nights on Bravo.
