In a recent episode of Southern Charm, Kathryn Dennis disappeared for an entire week, and it led to her co-stars worrying that she had fallen off the wagon. Did Dennis turn to drugs and alcohol while she was gone?
In a sneak peek for the newest episode, Dennis opens up to her co-star Shep Rose (who she has admitted to hooking up with a few times), and explains it was her battle with depression that led to her falling “off the grid.” She says that it didn’t have anything to do with weed or alcohol, but instead, she stopped taking her medication because she thought she didn’t need it.
She also says that she knew everyone would immediately think that she went to rehab or she fell off the wagon, but that isn’t the problem, even though that is her label. Rose admits that everyone thought it was drugs and alcohol – because you have to look at the past to analyze the present –, and everyone was worried about her.

“Fall off the grid all you want, just give us a heads up that you’re okay,” Rose said. “Because everybody who worried about you really does care. Everybody loves you, so, you know?”
When she hears those words, Dennis gets emotional and apologizes while Rose comforts her.
Last week’s episode titled “Gone Girl” started with Dennis skipping a boxing class with Naomi Olindo – whose attempts to find her were not successful –, but by the end Dennis showed up at Danni Baird’s house and revealed that doctors had given her a diagnosis of anxiety and depression when she was in rehab back in 2016.
Baird was excited to see Dennis was alive and told her never to disappear again. She wanted to know where Dennis had been and why she hadn’t responded to her communication attempts. Dennis said it was difficult to explain but did reveal that the Ashley Jacobs situation has been a lot for her to handle, so she decided to take a mental break. Dennis turned off her phone and locked herself in her apartment, but she didn’t intentionally avoid Baird’s messages.
Dennis said, “nothing actually went on,” but she simply decided to “shut off the world.”

Dennis has been feuding with Jacobs – Thomas Ravenel’s new girlfriend – for the entire season, and when Jacobs criticized Dennis’ parenting skills, things came to a head. Dennis lost custody of her daughter Kensie and son Saint after a positive drug test and rehab but has been attempting to rebuild her life ever since.
Baird told Kathryn Dennis that she thought she had relapsed, or even died, and it scared her to death. Dennis said that it is hard to explain depression to people that don’t deal with it, but she now realizes she needs to take her meds, and her diagnosis gave her some relief because it explained why she was irresponsibly choosing to numb out emotions.
