According to reports, the New York City medical examiner’s office confirmed that Kate Spade died due to suicide by hanging. The department released a report to Us Weekly on the 7th of June, Thursday, 2018.
The fashion icon and designer was found “unconscious and unresponsive” yesterday in her New York City apartment at the age of 55. Reportedly, her housekeeper found her hanging on the doorknob, using a red scarf as the noose around 10:20 a.m. ET.
When the police arrived at the scene, they pronounced her dead immediately. Fans of fashion know of Spade from her brand, Kate Spade New York, which she created with her husband, Andy Spade, back in 1993.
Back in 2007, Kate and Andy sold the company and then launched another brand, Frances Valentine, in 2016. They named their second organization after their 13-year-old daughter.
As for the reason for her suicide, her husband, Andy, released a statement yesterday, June 6th, which explained some of her troubles. Andy claimed Kate suffered from depression and anxiety for many years.
They got divorced ten months ago, and, of course, they were both dealing with their separation. In a statement written to the New York Times, Andy said that his wife was the “most beautiful” and the “kindest” person he has ever known.
He and his daughter are in absolute shock, and they had no idea she would do such a thing. She “sounded happy” the night before she committed suicide.
Kate’s husband explained that he is now focused on protecting his daughter’s privacy as he and her both struggle with the loss of her mother. As you may know, Kate isn’t the only one to pass away due to suicide by hanging.
Last year, Chris Cornell, the singer of the legendary rock band, Soundgarden, and Chester Bennington, from Linkin Park, killed themselves as well. Tragically, Chester even sang at Cornell’s funeral several months before.
