Actor Kim Coates is currently starring in the Canadian TV series Bad Blood on CityTV, but most fans remember him as Tig Trager, Clay Morrow’s (Ron Perlman) right-hand man on Sons of Anarchy. Since Coates was part of every season of the popular FX series, many are wondering if he will make a cameo appearance in the new SOA spinoff, Mayans M.C. just like Gemma Teller (Katey Sagal) did in the pilot episode. In a recent interview, Coates revealed his thoughts on returning to the Sons of Anarchy universe.
When asked about the possibility of reprising the role of Tig on Mayans M.C., the actor had a mixed reaction. Coates paused before he answered because he had not yet seen the show that premiered early last month, and he noted that any kind of crossover could only happen if it came from the show’s creator, Kurt Sutter.

The countdown is ON to the October 11th Season 2 premiere of ‘Bad Blood’ on CityTV…only ONE WEEK to go until this absolutely epic story and series resumes with Kim Coates returning as Declan Gardiner…the new reigning king of Montreal crime…New Season. New Story. New Blood. . ・・・ Sharing from @mark_montefiore: 7 Days until Season 2 of my baby, BAD BLOOD, comes to CityTV (thurs 7pm)! Alot of blood was spilled making this show in what i can describe as my biggest professional and personal challenge yet. Its BIGGER and BETTER than Season 1 (which ill always be super proud of) and countless number of people from 3 provinces and 3 countries worked their asses off to make it what it is. “First of all, I have no idea how to answer that, because this is Kurt Sutter’s show, and John Landgraf — the greatest CEO in our business — who runs FX. It’s their show now,” Coates told PopCulture.TV. “I haven’t been able to see it yet. I hope it’s a massive hit for everybody involved.”
Then, Coates started talking about the possibility of playing Tig again, and he made it clear that Sons of Anarchy was a special experience. He added that he would consider returning if his character had an essential role in the Mayans M.C. storyline.
Coates said that there will never be another SOA, and it was “magic in a bottle.” He explained that what everyone did on that show was special, and he is sure that they are trying to do the same thing in their own way on Mayans. However, if Tig were to make an appearance, it wouldn’t be just a “pop up.”

There is always a chance that Tig could come back, but it would have to be a bunch of moments — not just a small one.
Coates also revealed that he originally passed on the role of Tig Trager because of the brutality. But, Sutter promised that the role would grow, and he would become SAMCRO’s moral compass. Coates says that Sutter didn’t lie, and the character development definitely happened over seven years.
The actor explained that you need to take a leap of faith when you say yes to a series, and if it ends up being a hit, you hope the character will go to a place that you are comfortable playing. At the very least, the series needs to stretch the character, and he got stretched when playing Tig.

Kim Coates’ current role of Declan Gardiner in Bad Blood is just as violent as Tig. He plays a mafia enforcer turned mob boss, and in the first season, he was able to explore the darkness behind the character’s tough guy exterior.
As for Mayans MC, Sutter, who is the creator and executive producer, has said that he will use flashbacks in the new series to feature beloved Sons Of Anarchy characters. However, the new cast will not be spending their time talking about Jax. Sutter has no desire to mess with that show’s mythology.
New episodes of Mayans MC air Thursday nights on FX.
