If you didn’t know, throughout the end of Matt Lauer’s tenure at NBC’s Today, the show got beaten in terms of ratings by ABC’s Good Morning America. But, after Matt got fired for his sexual misconduct and Hoda Kotb replaced him, Today’s ratings have surpassed AMC’s GMA’s considerably.
There seem to be two potential reasons for such a thing to happen. The first one is that people didn’t like Matt in the first place and the second one may be that Hoda makes things much better.
According to Variety, viewers are flocking to the morning show from NBC not that the sexual predator is no longer delivering them the news.
Variety wrote that ‘not only capturing its usual lead among people between 25 and 54, the demographic most coveted by advertisers – but among overall audiences as well.’
This really makes sense because it looks like viewers would happily listen to Hoda since Matt is gone.
It is likely that he would be able to have tons of viewers even if he just read something aloud such as Megyn Kelly’s memoir for instance.
Speaking of her, Megyn’s ratings on her own show are surprisingly also rising, and this may be thanks to her recent interviews with all kinds of victims of harassment.
She even interviewed people who had claims against President Donald Trump.
According to the Washington Post, Megyn’s continued coverage is emblematic of the shifting identity of the show.
As a conclusion, even if Today’s rise in ratings may not last very much, it’s still interesting to see how things are changing after Matt’s firing and Hoda took over.
