Oprah Winfrey took to Instagram this morning to warn her faithful supporters that there is someone on social media posing as her and swindling people out of money.
Scams are nothing new. Especially with the advent of the internet, it has made it even easier to convince individuals to part with their money for selfish monetary gain.
This is especially true during the holiday season. Unscrupulous people know that more people are apt to be separated from their money over the holidays.
It seems that someone had that idea and used Oprah’s image to try to scam people out of money very recently. Oprah posted a video on Instagram letting all of her followers and fans know that she isn’t currently running any type of deal for Own subscriptions through social media.
After being tipped off in the comments section by several followers who asked if the offer they kept seeing was legitimate, Oprah knew something was amiss.
The media mogul responded to some people in the comment section to let them know that it wasn’t legitimate and that it was a huge scam. But she even went the extra mile and recorded a video denouncing it so that no more people would fall victim to this scam and give up their hard earned money on something that isn’t even associated with her.
Oprah advised her followers to not automatically believe everything that has her name or her picture attached to it. She went even further by saying that this type of thing happens with many famous people and so many unsuspecting people get scammed.
Lady O was not too happy about these individuals who were using her good name to sell products when they aren’t at all associated with her, the OWN network or any of the products that she currently promotes or brands she works with.
It’s always a good idea to do some extra research and be diligent about where your money is going before you make a purchase.
This is especially true online because anyone can make a user account or a website look efficient and professional but that doesn’t automatically make it legitimate or tied to a specific person.
