The peculiar case in which Sofia Vergara is being sued by her embryos might turn out to be quite a problem in the Hollywood scene.
As we’ve reported before, the model and Modern Family actress has been sued by her ex lover in the name of her frozen eggs that were fertilized by him. The two embryos were even, ridiculously enough, named Isabella and Emma in the lawsuit documentation.
The case might have a big impact for other celebrities in similar situations.
“Stars are worried that if Nick Loeb wins this case, a potential slew of other exes will emerge to shake them down for support money in similar situations!”
The embryos were created by Nick and Sofia while they were still a couple in 2013.
This bizarre lawsuit is a follow up of the one he lost just after their split, when he tried to gain custody of the embryos.
This new lawsuit is being discussed in a Louisiana court and Nick has the support of a Pro Life group — in a state that recognizes the rights of unborn children as people.
“Right now, there’s no legislation addressing our new reproductive frontier,” said Manhattan lawyer Martha Cohen Stine, who advises people in similar situations.
According to sources, Loeb is asking for custody of the embryos so that they can be brought to life by a surrogate mother and receive the trust Nick set for them. The said trust is said to cover up all of their expenses, including medical care and education until adult age.
The embryos are stored in Los Angeles, but considering that their trust is set in Louisiana, they have the ‘right’ to sue her claiming a huge $100 million inheritance from her. Crazy!
“This could set the precedent for anybody who engaged in similar arrangements, to have exes come after them for child support for embryos!”
