If you have never watched a game of basketball in your entire life, you still know who Allen Iverson and Shaquille O’Neal, or Shaq, are and what they have done for the sport.
It looks like the dreams of these two stars has finally come true. Not only they are the most recognized athletes in the world, but they have now also been officially recognized by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Besides these two stars, eight other people were inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame today. These other folks include:
Yao Ming – Retired Houston Rockets center
Jerry Reinsdorf – Current Chicago Bulls owner
Sheryl Swoopes – Four-time WNBA Champion
Tom Izzo – Michigan State University coach
Cumberland Posey / Zelmo Beaty – Basketball stars of the Pioneer era
John McLendon – Famous for breaking the racial barrier
Darrell Garretson – NBA Referee
Shaq has had one of the most interesting careers in NBA history. He was an extremely dominant center and known for his entertainment value. He could dunk, block, and even joke like none other.
In the course of his career, he played for the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Boston Celtics.
In his speech, he said that he could only dream that he would end up this successful. He used to look at the greats when he was younger and never thought he would be here today.
Allen Iverson had an equally admirable speech. He was a great point guard and also extremely entertaining to watch, even if you were not a fan of basketball.
He made sure to thank his coach at Georgetown University for staying on his back and essentially saving his life. He was in big trouble during those times, and without him, he would never be where he is today.
