Shahs of Sunset friend Mercedes “MJ” Javid and her new husband Tommy Feight have just revealed that they are ready to have a baby. At the age of 45, Javid is undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) with the hope that she can get pregnant soon.
“I’ve been going through IVF, and I’m ready to transfer an embryo,” Javid told Flipping Out designer Jeff Lewis on his podcast, Jeff Lewis Live. “I’m hoping and praying. You don’t want to jinx it. In a month and a half, hopefully, I’ll be pregnant.”
According to The Daily Dish, Javid also revealed that she had surgery in May where doctors removed uterine polyps and prepared her uterus for the IVF treatments.
Javid and Feight got married in April, and they knew right away that they wanted to start a family. But, one important person in Javid’s life is no longer around to share all of the happy moments that she is experiencing — her dad, Shams Javid . He died earlier this year, just weeks after her wedding, and in the upcoming season of Shahs of Sunset, MJ will share more about her father’s passing.
During a recent interview, when asked about how she and her family have been doing since her father died, MJ said that it was a difficult question to answer. She explains that a part of her has died and she will never be back. But she hopes that he will reincarnate himself as one of her children.
The one silver lining during her family’s tragedy is that MJ’s mom, Vida, has become a bit more nurturing. As fans know, MJ and Vida have not had a warm and fuzzy mother/daughter relationship. But Shams’ death has affected Vida, even though they divorced decades ago.
MJ says that she thinks her mom was not expecting to suffer from the loss, but since it happened, Vida has been much nicer. She explained that her mom has taken on the provider role that her dad once had, and she is now providing love instead of torture.

MJ continues to pay tribute to her dad on Instagram, and in one post she called him her best friend and poppa who was with her every day of her life. She also thanked him for teaching her everything that is important — to be tough and to be kind to strangers.
As for her plans to start a family, MJ Javid says that her biggest message to women on the IVF journey is to find a good support network of people who have gone through it, so you can talk to them and ask questions.
New episodes of Shahs of Sunset air Thursday nights on Bravo.
