Five years before a plethora of women accused Harvey Weinstein of rape, assault, harassment, as well as intimidation and coercion, Seth MacFarlane made a joke about his behavior during the 2013 Oscars. Celebrity Insider reported earlier that the Family Guy creator has, at many times, predicted PR catastrophes.
The 44-year-old creator of Family Guy said to Us Weekly during a party in LA on the 10th of January that it “was on purpose.”
The joke he referred to was the one during his speech at the 2013 Academy Awards when he was standing beside Emma Stone as she and Seth announced who would win the award for Best Supporting Actress.
Seth joked that the five female nominee’s for the award would no longer have to pretend to be attracted to the infamous producer. Following the cascade of allegations against him, the popularity of the video we have below skyrocketed.
During 2011, his friend and colleague, Jessica Barth, revealed that Harvey attempted to come on to her while they worked together on the Ted films. It was during this event that Seth decided he would comment on his behavior.
Due to his knowledge of Weinstein’s behavior, people accused Seth of withholding information when he could’ve spoken out against him and potentially saved other women from abuse.
Seth said he was glad that he chose to make such a joke even if it was merely a “veiled satirical moment.” This isn’t the only time the American Dad creator has made jokes that predicted upcoming scandals.
During a 2005 episode of Family Guy, Stewie ran through the mall screaming, “I’ve escaped from Kevin Spacey’s basement!” 11 years later, Kevin was accused of coming on to Anthony Rapp when he was a 14-year-old boy in 1986.
