Selena Gomez’s family believes that the singer refuses to live a sober life, and it has led to her latest physical and mental breakdown. A little more than a year after her kidney transplant, Gomez has continued to drink and party, and her mom, Mandy Teefey, believes that is what led to her low white blood cell count and hospitalization.
“Doctors have all told her she needs to stop,” claims an insider. “Her family says she needs to stay sober, or she could die.”
According to Radar Online, eyewitnesses spotted Gomez downing liquor at a bar in New York City this past July, just days after her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber announced his engagement to Hailey Baldwin. And, the 26-year-old even defended her drinking in a recent interview with Elle.

Mood lol (I was looking at myself in the mirror -like an idiot!) Update: taking a social media break. Again. As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.
The singer said that when it comes to her personal life if someone sees her having a glass of wine, she doesn’t care. Gomez says she is not trying to hide anything, and it is her life.
Gomez has been to rehab twice in the past couple of years, and insiders say that when her close friend Demi Lovato had a near-fatal overdose in July, it really shook her. A source says that Lovato’s overdose freaked Gomez out, and she felt that it could have been her.
Multiple reports claim that Gomez has checked into an East Coast psychiatric facility to get help with her anxiety and physical health issues, but she has not yet spoken about her recent hospitalization. TMZ is reporting that Gomez is receiving dialectical behavior therapy, or DBT, which is a cognitive behavioral treatment.
This comes after two recent stays at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for her low white blood cell count. Gomez reportedly had an emotional breakdown during her second stay at Cedars, which led her to seek treatment at the psychiatric facility.

As for Gomez’s ex-boyfriend, Bieber has surrounded himself with friends after the news broke of Gomez’s return to treatment. The 24-year-old singer arrived alone at a Los Angeles church earlier this week to get comfort from pals.
Bieber and Selena Gomez dated off and on between 2011 and 2014 and then reconciled in October 2017. They were together for just a few short months before splitting again. And just weeks later Bieber rebounded with Baldwin. However, the rebound turned into a romance, and Bieber and Baldwin got married in a New York courthouse last month.
