2017 was quite a year for Selena Gomez. She returned to the spotlight after an extended career break but quickly disappeared again to undergo a kidney transplant. Then she dated The Weeknd for ten months before the two split, and then shortly after started dating her ex Justin Bieber again.
The former Disney star recently opened up about her tumultuous personal life, and she revealed that she doesn’t think she will ever overcome her battle with depression and anxiety, but that doesn’t mean she won’t continue to be an outspoken advocate for mental health.
Gomez is on the current cover of Harper’s Bazaar, and she reveals in an interview that her issues are something she will have to deal with the rest of her life.
“I’ve had a lot of issues with depression and anxiety, and I’ve been very vocal about it, but it’s not something I feel I’ll ever overcome,” she said.
The 25-year-old just completed a two-week stint in a treatment program for her depression and anxiety, and it is the fourth time she has sought help for her emotional problems caused by her lupus diagnosis. Her longest stay was for 90 days back in 2016 at a center in Tennessee.
This is how the singer knows that her mental health is something that she must constantly attend to and there is no quick fix.
Her battles have caused a delay in her third studio album, but Gomez explained that it doesn’t matter how long it takes her, she just has to make sure that she is confident enough with her music and is ready – no matter if it takes ten years.
She did release thee singles last year, all of which were quite successful, but didn’t give any indication as to when fans could expect more.
As for her relationship with Bieber, things still seem to be going well since they rekindled their romance back in November. The couple enjoyed a pre-Valentine’s staycation this past weekend in Laguna Beach, just an hour and a half from Gomez’s home in Studio City.
Later, The Wolves singer made her first public appearance since completing her most recent treatment at Coach’s New York Fashion Week show. Gomez is a Coach brand ambassador, and she showed up with a totally new look – she traded in her short blond locks for a long brunette style with bangs.
Selena Gomez complimented her new hair with a black leather jacket, a black and purple floral dress, and some killer lace-up black boots.
