Scarlett Johansson is the top dog. The actress is currently the world’s highest-earning actress, with a whopping $40.5 million generated this year. As fans of the star know, she didn’t appear in Forbes magazine’s top ten list in 2017.
According to reports, Scarlett’s new role in Marvel’s universe as Black Widow is responsible for her fat paychecks. And next year, the world gets to see the second part of Avengers: Infinity War, meaning that she’ll probably find herself in the top ten that year as well.
Angelina Jolie follows behind with $28 million, due to her contract for the upcoming sequel, Maleficient II. It started shooting in May with a release date of May 2020.
Ms. Jennifer Aniston holds third place with $19.5 million, however, her spot has more to do with her sponsorships rather than her film career, with brands such as Aveeno, SmartWater, and Emirates endorsing her.
Last year, Emma Stone took the top spot with $26 million but didn’t make it to the list in 2018. Other former top-earners not featured on the list includes Emma Watson and Charlize Theron.
With that said, Scarlett’s total is nothing in comparison to the male equivalent, with the likes of Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson earning significantly more.
Last year, Mark made $68 million. As for this year, Dwayne and George Clooney will come in at $124 million, and $239 million respectively. George made so much money because of the recent sale of his tequila company, Casamigos, which was bought out by Diageo.
As it was previously reported, George said he really didn’t need to act in movies anymore, considering he had just sold a tequila company for $1 billion.
All in all, actors and actresses don’t come close to hip-hop entrepreneurs like 50 Cent, P. Diddy, and Dr. Dre, whose business ventures earn billions of dollars. Dr. Dre, for instance, sold Beats headphones to Apple for $3 billion.
