Katie Lowes revealed while on her podcast Katie’s Crib that before her baby boy Albee, she, unfortunately, suffered a miscarriage. As you may be aware, the Scandal actress welcomed her son in October of last year.
‘I was about 11 and a half weeks. I was a couple of days away from telling everyone I was pregnant. When I got pregnant with Albee, I waited way longer than 12 weeks to tell anyone because I kind of had PTSD about the miscarriage for sure.’
Lowes is married to director and fellow actor Adam Shapiro.
The star, who played Quinn on the popular show, went on to say that she found out about the unfortunate news during a doctor’s appointment.
The actress was looking forward to hearing the fetus’ heartbeat, but the specialist told her ‘there is none.’
‘The initial feeling when I found out there was no heartbeat was, ‘OK, let’s Olivia Pope the situation – let’s fix it. Let’s make the schedule. Let’s get to the hospital. Let’s get the [dilation and curettage]… When can I start trying again?’’ she recalled.
‘As soon as it set in that I had had a miscarriage, what happens is you have a major hormonal drop-off. And, I think I was massively sad for about three months, and I was only pregnant for three months.’
The procedure of removing the dead fetus from her uterus was apparently not so much painful physically as much as mentally.
She stressed that is was ‘so much sh**tier than I imagined it being.’
But what determined Katie to open up about such a delicate topic?
Well, at the beginning of the podcast she explained that she really thought it was important to address such sides of motherhood.
‘This is a very painful, triggering topic, but like so many triggering and painful topics in motherhood, they really need to be talked about,’ she said.
