Savannah Guthrie is no longer bothered by her age. The co-host of the Today Show dished on the rollercoaster ride that is getting older in an industry which demands women look perfect all of the time. As you may know, women who work in broadcasting, TV, and film, are held to beauty standards that some think are unfair in comparison to men.
One of the common issues women speak about when they get older is the lack of roles for women past forty-years-old. In a new blog post, Savannah talked about the problems at length, as well as the fact that she is one of her own harshest critics.
Guthrie admitted she reacts like “anyone” when a picture is published or posted which is unflattering, whether it’s because of wrinkles or an awkward look or gesture.
Guthrie said she’ll try to use the Instagram filter to make herself look better. However, unlike some other people out there, even if she doesn’t look great, she posts it anyway.
She said, “I’m 46-years-old, and I don’t mind looking 46-years-old.” Guthrie said some people say in her photos that they can see your “wrinkles,” and Guthrie prefers to think of them as smiling and laughing lines.
Moreover, Guthrie admitted the social media criticism gets to her sometimes; people aren’t always the nicest. Like many other celebrities, Savannah complained of the harsh commenters.
Guthrie complained that she doesn’t have a thick skin, and refrains from exposing herself to negative comments. As for her children, the 3-year-old, Vale Guthrie Feldman, the co-host admitted she’s acutely aware of the type of life and struggles her daughter would have.
The Today Show host said she is careful not to expose her daughter to those types of problems. Her daughter asked her why she exercises, and Savannah said it’s because she wants to be healthy and robust, rather than for the attractiveness aspect.
