We have learned that Cynthia Nixon mentioned it to her Sex and the City co-star Sarah Jessica Parker that she was planning to run for governor but she apparently took that information with a grain of salt. As a result, Parker was super surprised by her decision.
While at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival on Friday, she revealed that ‘I did not [anticipate] that she would seek a gubernatorial seat. She did share with me she was going to announce it about a month before. I was excited and proud of her. I think she has already been good for the conversation.’
SJP went on to say that she and Nixon are super close friends and she is well aware the fellow actress has ‘been an activist her whole life.’
‘She is incredibly bright. She really loves this city, she has been involved in conversations about policies that have been very important to her for many many years: Education, public schools, housing … the larger issues which are part of conversations affecting us here [in the city] as well as upstate,’ Parker gushed.
The actress also noted that it is a very ‘good’ thing that she is running against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
According to some reports, the current Governor is leading Nixon in the polls by 31 points but Parker is still very excited to see what ends up happening in the final race.
‘This is what’s so exciting about primaries, right? People can inspire one incumbent to reconsider policy … or just have an important conversation. She is formidable. She is incredibly bright. She is really brave. She is excited about this race and it is challenging. But, she looks incredibly energized and I think it is good for us to have a competitor – it is always good. A challenger’s good.’
