Sandra Oh is stoked to be stepping away from her character as Dr. Christina Yang on the set of Grey’s Anatomy. The 46-year-old actress will be taking on a new role as the titular character, Eve, in Killing Eve, where she portrays a disheveled woman chasing down a psychopathic killer.
During a chat with reporters at the Television Critics Association Panel on the 12th of January, Sandra Oh opened up about some of the similarities between her character on the new series and that of Christina Yang.
Sandra explained she was “actually really happy for the departure,” which makes perfect sense considering the entirety of her character was on the set of Grey’s Anatomy.
Sources close to the actress told us: “Sandra was really getting sick of playing Christina. Wouldn’t you after 10 years? That’s a lot of time to do one person.”
However, both personalities are “determined,” and Sandra is incredibly interested in Eve and her “frazzled-ness.”
According to the Grey’s Anatomy alum, she gravitated toward the woman because of her insecurity and the fact that Eve “doesn’t have it together.”
She added that portraying Eve is a tremendous amount of work and fun, and is thrilled to be taking on the role.
Her castmates explained Sandra as a methodological actress, becoming immersed in the character and coming onto set each day as Eve and not Sandra.
As you may know, Sandra left the medical drama after the 10th season and said to The Hollywood Reporter that she “really gave it her all” creatively. However, it was time for her to move on.
