Actor Ryan Gosling was the host of SNL’s 43rd season premiere, and he had to brag about some of his most recent accomplishments during the opening. The star claimed that he was really excited to host the show, perhaps just as excited as he was when he ‘saved jazz.’ Gosling referred to his role as a jazz pianist in the highly acclaimed musical La La Land.
Ryan went on to brag more about him saving jazz, adding: ‘More importantly I have a new movie coming out called Blade Runner 2049, with Harrison Ford. It is very exciting, and yes, for those of you who are curious, I was the last person who thought I could save jazz. I was like, ‘Me? Ryan Gosling? A white kid from Canada? I guess I can try and save jazz.’ So, I did.’
The hilarious monologue talked about how on his first day of shooting the Blade Runner sequel, co-star Harrison Ford asked him what jazz was.
That was when Gosling ‘broke down’ the real, deep meaning of the musical genre by sitting down at the piano and giving him the funniest most basic explanation of the otherwise complex art form.

Then, cast member Kenan Thompson explained that Gosling was far from saving jazz and that people who said that about him were just being sarcastic.
But, as expected, Ryan did not accept defeat and shot back at Thompson by calling him ‘the guy who didn’t save jazz.’
At this point, it was the special guest’s duty to get to Gosling, and that is when his La La Land co-star Emma Stone came out with the intention of giving him a reality check but ended up saying they both saved jazz.
It was a really cute interaction between the former co-stars as well a funny season 43 opening for Saturday Night Live.
Ryan Gosling has hosted the comedy show before, back in 2015.
