Following her massive scandal that led to her TV show getting canceled, Roseanne Barr continues to defend herself, claiming she is in fact, ‘not a racist!’ The actress took to social media today to explain her tweet about former Barack Obama White House adviser Valerie Jarrett.
‘I’m not a racist, I never was, and I never will be. One stupid joke in a lifetime of fighting for civil rights for all minorities, against networks, studios, at the expense of my nervous system/family/wealth will NEVER be taken from me,’ she wrote.
Also today, the President of Disney-ABC Television Group, Ben Sherwood sent a memo to Roseanne, titled Our Values.
The message was obtained by ET and reads: ’Team: Much has been said and written about yesterday’s decision to cancel the Roseanne show. In the end, it came down to doing what is right and upholding our values of inclusion, tolerance, and civility. Not enough, however, was said about the many men and women who poured their hearts and lives into this show and were just getting started on the next season.’
‘We are so sorry they were swept up in all of this, and we give thanks for their many talents, wish them well, and hope to find another way to work together down the road. The last 24 hours have been a powerful reminder of the importance of words in everything that we do – online and on the air.’
He concluded the memo: ‘And the responsibility of using social media – and all of our programs and platforms – with careful thought, decency, and consideration. Today we move forward, together, full speed. Ben.’
