The first two seasons of the CW breakout hit Riverdale have been dark and full of crazy drama, but star Shannon Purser says that season 3 will take the madness to another level. The 21-year-old actress, who plays Ethel Muggs, also revealed that there would definitely be a lot of twists and turns.
“I think it’s going to be even darker if you can imagine. A little bit of the supernatural in there too, which is really fun to play with. And definitely a very dark turn for Ethel, but that’s about all I can say,” said Purser.
A season 3 teaser dropped this past week, and it picks up where season 2 left off with Archie (KJ Apa) in handcuffs after the cops arrested him for murder. But it doesn’t look like he will be in jail for long because, in another clip, he is in bed with his girlfriend Veronica (Camila Mendes),
Veronica and Archie’s relationship appears to be stronger than ever, and in one clip she yells at her dad, Hiram (Mark Consuelos), “We will survive whatever you have planned because we are endgame!”
The teaser also showed popular couple Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and Betty (Lili Reinhart), and the Southside Serpents have at least two new members — Betty and Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch). And, Archie is sporting a Serpent tattoo, so it’s possible he has also joined the gang.
Fans will also see a new villain in Riverdale. And at the end of the video, Jughead yells for help in the woods.
There will also be a flashback episode this season, and Apa and Reinhart will play the younger versions of their on-screen parents. And, Michael Consuelos (son of Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa) will play a young Hiram Lodge.
As for Purser, fans may know her as Barb Holland from season 1 of Stranger Things. And even though her character died after just a few episodes, she still earned an Emmy nomination. She said in an interview with Us Weekly that the Netflix sci-fi series was a perfect show for her because she loves the 1980s and she loves science fiction, and that made it a dream come true.

Purser added that even though she is no longer on the show, she will continue to watch Stranger Things, and she will be cheering on the rest of the cast. In addition to her role on Riverdale, Purser is also starring in the romantic comedy Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.
The actress, who plays the titular role, says that everyone feels like a loser at times, and the character of Sierra Burgess is trying to find out who she is while feeling pressure from her family and society.
Sierra Burgess Is a Loser starts streaming on Netflix on September 7th. Season 3 of Riverdale begins October 10th on The CW.
