Rihanna covers the June issue of Vogue and during her interview, she was an open book when it came to her relationship with Drake. The two have known each other for over a decade and their history has been a bit sorted to say the least.
The singer, fashion maven and makeup mogul revealed that waiting through Drake’s speech at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards was uncomfortable because she doesn’t like too many compliments and felt it was a very revealing moment to have out in the open.
When asked if the two of them have remained friends since their split, Rihanna says that they don’t “have a friendship now” but that they aren’t enemies.
An interesting take from someone who has been linked to and seen with Drake in some capacity for years.
The two of them have three songs together and have been on and off as far as friendship or relationship for quite some time.
Their first reported date was back in 2009. In October 2010, Rihanna released a song with Drake titled “What’s My Name?” Many fans immediately noticed their onscreen chemistry in the video. In 2011, they performed together at the Grammy’s.
In November 2011, Rihanna joins Drake on his album title track, “Take Care.” Then things turn sour as there seemed to be some type of rift between the two in 2012 and 2013 at the MTV Video Music Awards.
In 2015, Rihanna was seen backstage at his Coachella performance. It looked like they were back on.
So much so that at the beginning of 2016, “Work” was born – their third song together. The video was definitely steamier than the prior two had been. They performed together and dated for months at that point until it ended.
So it’s hard to say if this is really the end for them, especially with Rihanna’s use of the word ‘now’ when she responded.
However, Rihanna seems quite content with her new man, Saudi billionaire Hassan Jameel. She doesn’t mention him by name in the interview but does say that she’s very happy. She’s pleased that she has allowed herself to disconnect from her career and have a private personal life.
