The Real Housewives of New York world was rocked last week with the unexpected death of Bethenny Frankel’s ex-boyfriend Dennis Shields. The banker reportedly died from a prescription drug overdose, and sources now claim that his death was completely accidental.
Shields died of an overdose inside of Trump Tower late last week. He allegedly told his assistant to give him Narcan after he realized what was happening, but the drug was not administered in time.
Narcan is typically used to counteract opiate overdoses. Shields’ death led to a lot of speculation that he may have ended his life after being dumped by Frankel. But insiders say that wasn’t the case.

A friend of Shields says that he did not intentionally overdose on the pills. In an interview with Radar Online, Gregory Broccoli claimed that Shields would never commit suicide and that his death was a huge accident.
“There’s no way that this was intentional,” Broccoli, who has been friends with Shields for decades, shared. “It’s impossible. There was too much on his agenda.”
Broccoli was scheduled for a meeting with Shields this week and his death came as a shock to friends and family. Broccoli is pretty sure the drugs Shields overdosed on were originally prescribed for back pain, an issue Shields battled for quite some time.
Broccoli noted that Shields was a very active person who played sports and was always in the gym. He did, however, complain a lot about back pain whenever he was seated for a long time.
Shields’ funeral was held this past Monday in New York. Frankel, who dated Shields on-and-off for past several years, attended the solemn ceremony. Frankel was very emotional throughout the funeral and understandably wept as they laid Shields to rest.
Inside sources claim that the RHONY star ended her relationship with Shields a few days before his passing. Authorities have not issued an official toxicology report, though early reports claim that he overdosed from a large amount of oxy.
Although Frankel and Dennis Shields were broken up, she was clearly devastated by the news. Shortly after the funeral, Frankel broke her silence about the death by sharing a heartbreaking photo of Shields with her pet dog, Cookie (who passed in 2017).
The reality star wrote a short tribute to Shields alongside the photo, praising him for giving her “endless unconditional love.” Sources say that Bethenny Frankel is inconsolable in light of Shields’ shocking death.
