Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice’s husband Joe went before an immigration judge this week for a hearing in his deportation case, and the 46-year-old begged the judge to keep him in the country. Wearing a grey jumpsuit and black rim glasses, Joe attended the Pennsylvania court hearing via teleconference from Allenwood Federal Prison.
Joe is currently in the middle of serving a three-year sentence on fraud charges, and as an Italian citizen, he is facing deportation after his release next spring because of his crimes. However, he is fighting the deportation through immigration court.
“The question is whether a termination is appropriate,” Immigration Judge Ellington told the court.
Then, she addressed Joe’s attorney, Jerard Gonzalez.
“You think Mr. Giudice should not be deported because he did not commit crimes that warrant deportation. And you think that even if he is deportable, he should be allowed to cancel deportation proceedings, correct?” said Judge Ellington.
Gonzalez replied “yes” to the judge’s question, and Judge Ellington then said that he would decide if Joe qualified for cancellation of his removal before October 1st. He added that if he finds Joe is eligible and shouldn’t be deported, the government prosecutors do have the right to appeal.
Then, Judge Ellington said that he had met Joe a few months ago and he knows the case very well before asking if the reality star wanted to say anything. Joe threw up his hands, shook his head, sighed, and said, “I’ve been here my whole life, I wouldn’t know what to do in any other country. I want to stay here.”
Teresa did not attend the court hearing, and Radar Online is reporting that is because she couldn’t “take the stress” of the legal battle.
Homeland Security has been fighting Joe’s request to stop the deportation. They claim that he has not presented enough evidence to prove that he should stay in the country. However, he did come here as a child and has no memories of living anywhere else.
The judge scheduled Joe’s next court hearing for October 10th.
As for Teresa, she has been busy this week sending her kids off to their first day of school. Joe and Teresa have four daughters, and she posted a pic this week of their oldest — 17-year-old Gia — leaving for school in a romper, and many people immediately started to mommy-shame her for letting her daughter wear the revealing outfit.
Gia is starting her senior year, and she wore a blue tie-dyed romper with spaghetti straps and short shorts. It looks like the fans who were playing fashion police were being a bit extreme because the cute outfit covered everything it needed to.
Teresa Giudice returns for a new season of RHONJ later this year on Bravo.
