Real Housewives of Orange County star Kelly Dodd recently announced she is divorcing her husband of eleven years, Michael Dodd. The news came as a bit of a surprise to fans, but the reality star says she had no choice but to end her marriage.
While giving a tour of her recently sold $6 million Corona del Mar home, Dodd told Entertainment Tonight that the marriage was not working. She revealed, “I guess everyone has a final straw, I just…it was like, just disagreements all the time.”
The Dodd’s put their home on the market and sold it before they announced their divorce. They will be moving out sometime this month.
The Arizona native went on to say that fans will see everything play out this season. She says everything seems good until the relationship takes a “hardcore left.” She admits that her relationship has always been like that, either “good or really bad.”
The Dodd’s are going to remain friends despite the divorce; she says he is part of her family and always will be, and they will continue to do things with their 10-year-old daughter, Jolie. However, the couple just can’t live together. She says she is excited about spending quality time with Jolie and focusing on herself.
The marriage should legally be over rather quickly since Kelly Dodd has requested a bifurcated divorce, which would allow for the couple to be legally divorced before reaching a financial settlement or custody agreement.
Dodd actually filed for divorce five years ago, but the couple never went through with it, and the case just sat idly in the courts. This means that Dodd is just picking up her original filing and this time is going to make sure a settlement is reached.
RHOC co-star Vicki Gunvalson said that her friend is doing “good” despite her breakup. She said she called her friend and asked what she could do for her. Dodd responded by saying that Gunvalson was the only person that has asked her that question.
According to Gunvalson, Dodd is facing some uncertainty while going through this change in her life; however, she will be there for her friend no matter what, because “that’s what friends do.”
Real Housewives of Orange County airs on Monday nights on Bravo.
