One year ago, Real Housewives of Orange County star Shannon Beador announced her separation from David Beador, her husband of seventeen years, and now she says she is feeling stronger than ever. Shannon says that she has stayed busy since the relationship ended and has balanced her time between business and family.
This past year, the mother of three daughters — Sophie, 15, Adeline, 13, and Stella, 13 — launched a wildly successful food line, Real for Real Cuisine. And, in addition to working and being a mom, she has also hit the gym and lost more than 30 pounds of her 40-pound weight gain through exercise and changing her diet.
“It’s crazy to think what you can accomplish in a year,” says Shannon. “I’ve learned a lot. To say in one year, I’m going to lose nearly all my weight, launch a business that so far is doing well, move on from a marriage, and strengthen friendships and established new ones? That’s a tall order! But I’ve gotten here one step at a time.”
Shannon also told People Magazine that deep down she has gotten stronger, and part of what she did after separating from David was to spend time on self-reflection and figure out the changes she wanted to make in her life. She also asked herself what kind of person she wanted to be.
The 54-year-old explained that she “wasn’t any rose to come home to” at the end of her marriage because she was reactive. She says that she needed to learn to take a step back and take in potential criticism about being negative and exam it.
Shannon has also been getting back into the singles scene and has gone on a few casual dates. Most recently, she has spent some time with businessman Scot Matteson, but she isn’t making a commitment to a relationship anytime soon.
As for David, he is in a serious relationship with girlfriend Lesley Cook, who he just moved in with. Shannon says she has no control over David’s life anymore, and he can do whatever he wants. But, for her, it is more important to not jump into a relationship right away.

Shannon says it is important for her to stand on her own and check out her options. Because, if she immediately jumps back into a relationship, she will be cutting herself off from meeting so many people, and she doesn’t want to do that.
Looking back, Shannon Beador admits she didn’t take the time to get to know David like she should have. She says she was 35 and felt she had to hurry up if she wanted kids. Then, she got pregnant on the honeymoon, and she and David never got the chance for “me and you time.”
