Emily Simpson is one of the newest cast members of Real Housewives of Orange County, but fans will soon find out that she is no stranger to drama. Back in 2008, her husband Shane went through a nasty divorce from his first wife, Miriam, and according to court documents, she accused him of physically, sexually, and emotionally abusing her.
Radar Online is reporting that in addition to abuse, Miriam is also claiming that Shane was addicted to prescription drugs, and she was under such stress that it caused her health to deteriorate so much that she was “near death.”
“He used and took prescription medications of others to quell his habit,” Miriam said. “He made me feel trapped and hopeless as a result of excessive control and lack of liberties placed upon me…Because of all the aforementioned abuse, stress, and circumstances, I became physically ill after months of diagnostic tests, blood transfusions, and other medical procedures, not only was I diagnosed with blood disorders caused by stress, my body was what seems to be near death, and I had no choice but to leave.”

However, nowhere in the court files did Miriam say that she called police after any alleged abuse.
Shane denies all allegations of abuse and says that his ex-wife – who he was married to for nine years – suddenly moved to Utah with their two daughters from Orange County without telling him. He says that Miriam took the girls to Utah in November of 2007 for Thanksgiving and never came back to California.
Then, she filed for divorce and refused to let Shane visit with the kids. He says that for a month he didn’t know where his daughters were and couldn’t visit them. Eventually, in 2008, an Orange County court ordered Shane to pay $3,000 a month in child support.
Insiders say that Shane and Miriam have now put their nasty divorce behind them, and are now on “amicable” terms, sharing 50/50 custody.
Shane married Emily in 2009, and they are the parents of three kids – Annabelle and twin boys, Luke and Keller.
Emily gets her start on RHOC in this week’s season thirteen premiere episode, and in the promo, she says she is “not your average housewife.” She is a successful attorney and a part-time party planner, and that is how she met Tamra Judge a few years ago.
Emily planned Judge’s son Ryan’s baby shower. The two did have a falling out, but now that Emily is on the show, the former friends are ready to reconcile.
Emily isn’t a California native – she grew up in Ohio – but she moved to the Golden State to continue her education after graduating from college. She works at Higbee & Associates as a copyright attorney where she advocates for and protects her clients’ intellectual property rights.
In addition to her career, Emily finds time for date nights with her husband and downtime with their five kids.
The other new cast member is Gina Kirschenheiter, and the drama has already started for her first season on RHOC. She recently filed for divorce from her husband, Matthew.
