Counting On star Jinger Duggar is known as a rebel in the family because her clothing choices don’t line up with her family’s strict dress code. But, when it comes to her religious beliefs and politics, just how conservative is she?
The Duggar family is known for being way more traditional and conservative than most. They follow uber-strict rules when it comes to dating, fashion, going swimming, and more. And, since parents are such a huge influence over what their kids believe, it makes sense that the Duggar children would have similar views of those who raised them.
According to Romper, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are Republicans, and in the past, Michelle has spoken at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference – a place where Republicans meet once a year to discuss issues facing the party.
Jim Bob also ran as a Republican during the 2002 Arkansas Senate primary race, and in 2016 they voiced their support for Donald Trump by claiming that the country was “turning back to God” when they elected him President.
But, just because her parents are conservative Republicans, it doesn’t necessarily mean Jinger is the exact same. She hasn’t shared her beliefs outright on social media, but she has described Jesus as “being everything,” and once wrote in a blog post that God forgave her for having a “rebellious heart.”
So, it is extremely likely that Jinger shares her parents’ views, especially since her husband Jeremy Vuolo is just as religious as her family. The Grace Community Church pastor has also shared his controversial anti-LGBTQ views in his sermons, so it seems his politics, when it comes to social issues, are also extremely conservative.
However, it is because of Vuolo that Jinger has been able to rock her rebellious style since they tied the knot in November of 2016. In Duggar world, once a daughter gets married, it is the husband who is in charge of the family dress code (The single girls follow dad’s rules.)
Her wardrobe from the past year has been a good indication to fans that she is making her own rules in a lot of ways. She married a man that had a secular background – including being a professional soccer player, drinking and partying in college, and going to a major university.
She moved away from her family in Arkansas to Laredo, Texas, once she got married, and she and her husband waited over a year before getting pregnant, the only daughter to do so.
So, even though it isn’t clear exactly how she votes during election time – even though we have a pretty good idea – Jinger sure is living life the way she wants to and seems to be having a lot of fun doing it.
