Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane are officially over. After fourteen years of marriage, Rebecca submitted the legal documents for divorce from the Grey’s Anatomy star on the 16th of February, Friday.
Rebecca, 46, wants to share physical and legal custody of their two children, Georgia, and Billie, who are six and seven respectively.
As for a reason for their separation, like many other couples, Gayheart cited irreparable differences. Gayheart and Dane got married in October of 2004 and fans will remember when Eric sought out treatment for mental health issues back in April of 2017.
For the first time after getting treatment, Eric and his estranged wife made an appearance at a ceremony in June – the 16th Chrysalis Butterfly Ball.
Spectators noted, “for all intents and purposes, it looked like they were a happy couple just like anyone else. I guess they were struggling to hold things together after all. Undoubtedly, his constant health struggles played a role. It seemed like there was always something wrong, one day its painkillers, the next its depression. A person can only handle so many problems.”
Following his brief hiatus from acting, Eric spoke candidly about his struggle with the blues. The actor said he had to take a break and was coping “with depression.”
The emotions were unexplainable, in the sense that he had no idea why he felt so sad all the time. Every day, he woke up and asked himself if he wanted to get out of bed.
However, the doctors prescribed him medication, Pristiq, which cured him. Eric said mental health struggles are a genuine thing and it was “scary.”
In the end, the time off did him well and he’s now “feeling great.” This isn’t the only time Eric has received therapy for depression and addiction. Back in 2011, he sought out help for his dependency on painkillers.
