The comedy ‘Zoolander 2’ with Ben Stiller and ‘Batman vs Superman’ starring Ben Affleck lead the 2017 Razzie Award nominations.
The Oscars parody awards acknowledge the worst actors and movies of the year.
“2016 was a year of so many bad movies that the Razzies had to lengthen nominations to six for each category! Instead of five,” according to a release.
Leading the worst of the worst this year include Zoolander 2 with nine nominations and the battle-royal of ‘Batman vs Superman” , which received 8 nominations.
Despite mostly negative reviews, Batman vs Superman took in nearly $900 million worldwide.
‘Dirty Grandpas’ with Robert De Niro, ‘Gods of Egypt’ with Gerard Butler and ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ were also among the finalists for the Razzie’s worst films of the year.
De Niro, Gerard Butler, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Ben Stiller were selected for very undesirable “raspberry” award for worst actor.
Among actresses Megan Fox for her role as journalist April O’Neil in ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,’ and even Julia Roberts in ‘Mother’s Day’ are in contention for worst female actress.
‘Alice through the looking glass,’ a Tim Burton flop and one of Disney’s few failures during a record year, was also named in the “worst film” category along with the likes of Fifty Shades of Grey.
The winners of the 37th Razzie Awards, awarded by 1000 members in a poll, will be unveiled on February 25, on the eve of the prestigious Oscars.
The winners, who rarely show up at the ceremony, receive a trophy consisting of a raspberry the size of a golf ball placed on a reel of Super 8 film, painted in golden yellow.
