Gabrielle Union is one of the few women in Hollywood who is heralded continuously as one who ages backward. On the other hand, even if she has been looking almost the same for a few years now, this had not hindered her from feeling threatened especially when Ryan Destiny came along.
The Being Mary Jane frontwoman described her hatred towards the young actress in her latest memoir which is called We’re Going To Need More Wine.
Our December Guest Judge @gabunion is heroic, hilarious, and a great writer. Her debut memoir, WE’RE GOING TO NEED MORE WINE, is a wise and unfiltered collection of true-life tales about the mishaps and triumphs of a bright career. Bossip was the one that obtained an excerpt from her book, and we can see how the actress admits to being threatened by the public’s claims that Destiny will be the ‘next her.’
‘Just the night before, I had attended a pre-Oscar cocktail party for women in film. There I had met a young actor named Ryan Destiny,’ she wrote.
‘She was featured in the Lee Daniels series Star. I heard that she looked like me. I saw her in person, and she looks like I gave birth to her.’
She also talked about the brief exchange that they had:
‘Oh my God,’ she stated. ‘I am finally meeting you. This is so fantastic.’ ‘What are you, twelve?’ ‘Twenty-two.’ ‘S**t.’ ‘I admire you so much,’ she said.
‘If you could mentor me…’ B***h, f**k you, I thought. You want me to mentor you?’ she remembered.
‘The press is calling you the next Gabrielle Union… ‘except she can sing and dance!’ I smiled, and the photographers came over. They needed to document this moment of ‘Look who’s old!’
It seems that Destiny heard of what Union wrote about her and she claimed that she didn’t have a clue about what Union was thinking in her mind because she didn’t show her true feelings on the outside.
‘I remember the time that we met, and this was the situation that she was referring to in her book, and she was very nice. I wouldn’t have known that she was thinking any of the stuff that she said she was thinking in her head at all,’ she said.
‘It’s interesting because she was just talking to me and we were just chopping it up about what I was filming at the time, and she was just supportive of that,’ Destiny concluded.
